Reactive Terrain RC was created around a simple idea: give people a place to enjoy the hobby, learn, build, compete and spend time with other people who share the same passion.
Over time, we've realised that Reactive Terrain RC has become much more than an indoor RC course.
For some people, it's about driving. For others, it's building and modifying their rigs, learning new skills, competing, creating content or simply watching what other members of the community are doing.
And sometimes, it's none of those things.
Sometimes it's simply about turning up, having a coffee, having a chat and spending a few hours around people who understand the same hobby.
A place to get involved
Our monthly Pay & Play sessions provide an affordable opportunity for people to spend time at Reactive Terrain RC and enjoy the course.
You don't need to own an RC crawler to take part. We have vehicles available for people who would like to have a go, so friends and newcomers can experience the hobby without having to buy their own vehicle first.
Some visitors arrive with their own highly modified rigs. Others are completely new to RC crawling. Everyone is welcome.
Our aim is to make participation about the experience and the people, rather than how much equipment someone owns.
Learning and sharing
A major part of Reactive Terrain RC is sharing knowledge.
We regularly build and modify vehicles, develop new terrain and create videos showing people how to build their own rigs and courses.
Through our YouTube channel and social media, we share ideas, techniques, builds and projects with the wider RC community.
We also create CAD designs and STL files that allow people to make their own components and develop their own vehicles and projects.
We believe that sharing knowledge and encouraging people to create things themselves is an important part of keeping the hobby accessible and helping it grow.
Community and wellbeing
One of the things that has become increasingly important to us is the social side of the hobby.
Reactive Terrain RC provides an opportunity for people to meet others, make friends and spend time in a relaxed environment built around a shared interest.
We have seen first-hand that people sometimes come to our Pay & Play sessions as much for the conversation and company as they do for the RC driving.
A few hours talking over a coffee, helping somebody with their vehicle, discussing a build or simply being around other people can be just as valuable as driving around the course.
We are not a mental health service and do not claim to provide medical or professional support. However, we believe that hobbies, friendships, social interaction and having a welcoming place to belong can make a positive contribution to people's general wellbeing.
For some people, having somewhere to go, something to work towards and a community to be part of can make a real difference.
Building a community around the hobby
Reactive Terrain RC is also about encouraging people to participate in the wider hobby.
Through our events, competitions, community projects, awards, educational content and collaborations with other enthusiasts and organisations, we want to help create opportunities for people to get involved at whatever level suits them.
Whether someone is an experienced builder, a competitive driver, a creative hobbyist or someone who has never driven an RC crawler before, there should be a place for them within the community.
That is what Reactive Terrain RC is ultimately about:
Building a community around a shared hobby, creating opportunities to participate, learn, create and compete, and providing a welcoming place where people can spend time together.
