The Reactive Terrain RC Camel Trophy Series is an original event format created and developed in-house at Reactive Terrain RC built from the ground up around the FCX24M platform and inspired by the adventure, teamwork and endurance of the legendary Camel Trophy.

From the moment the clock starts, teams are thrown into an expedition where simply reaching the finish is only part of the challenge.

Timed stages. Technical obstacle zones. Winching. Recovery. Water crossings. Cargo. Team strategy. Mechanical preparation. And terrain designed to push these little Land Rovers to their limits.

Every decision matters.

Do you take the safer line or risk everything to save time? Do you stop and help a teammate? Can your rig carry everything it needs and still survive the course? And when something goes wrong because eventually it will can your team recover and keep moving?

Reactive Terrain RC is proud to have created a dedicated indoor FCX24M Camel Trophy endurance series, bringing the spirit of expedition driving into the world of small-scale RC.

The series isn't about building the most extreme rock crawler.

It's about building a Camel Trophy rig.

A vehicle that can travel, carry equipment, tackle difficult terrain, recover itself and its teammates, survive the expedition and bring its cargo home.

With team-based competition, timed stages, Special Tasks, changing conditions, physical cargo and expedition equipment, every Series brings a new challenge and every team develops its own way of tackling it.

What started as an idea has grown into a community of dedicated endurance drivers building, preparing and returning with increasingly capable and individual Camel Trophy rigs.

And we're only getting started.

Format: Team-based timed trail with obstacle zones
Teams: 4 teams, up to 5 drivers per team

Teams and driver numbers will be assigned and final instructions given.

🕒 Stage Format

• Teams start the trail at 15-minute intervals.

• The trail timer runs continuously, except when paused at an Obstacle Zone.

Obstacle Zones

• Each driver completes the obstacle individually.

• Drivers are timed separately.

• When all drivers have completed the obstacle, the trail timer resumes.

Medical supply boxes may be found at Obstacle Zones.

They must be carried to the finish line.

⚠ Accessories cannot be dropped to make space.

⚠️ Trail Rules & Conduct

• Vehicles must drive every section of the trail and obstacles.

• If a vehicle becomes stuck or rolls over, it must return to the start marker of that section.

• No hand assistance to move the vehicle forward (strict “Hands-of-God” rule).

• Over-generous towing is not allowed — recoveries must remain realistic.

• Only fixed winches and natural logs may be used as trail aids.

Each team must transport their own:

• Sand rails

• Dummy wheels and tyres

• Any additional obstacle aids

• 🎒 Mandatory Expedition Equipment

All competing vehicles must carry the following expedition equipment throughout the event.

Equipment may be purchased, handmade or 3D printed, but must be clearly recognisable and appropriately scaled to the vehicle.

Required Equipment

- Working vehicle-mounted winch

- Sand rails / sand ladders – minimum 2

- Tow / recovery rope

- Spare wheel & tyre – minimum 1

- Fuel jerry can – minimum 1

- Water can – minimum 1

- Expedition storage case / crate – minimum 1

- Pioneer tools – shovel plus 1 additional appropriate tool

- Recovery / field tool kit – minimum 1

Spare Wheel

The spare wheel must be approximately the same overall diameter as the standard FCX24M Discovery wheel and tyre.

A narrower scale-profile spare is permitted.

Undersized or miniature decorative spare wheels will not qualify.

Equipment Rules

All mandatory expedition equipment must be fitted to or securely carried by the vehicle when presented for Scrutineering.

Mandatory equipment must remain with the vehicle throughout the event.

Mandatory equipment cannot be removed or discarded to make space for recovered cargo.

Equipment may be carried on the roof rack, bonnet, rear load area or other suitable scale-appropriate location.

The working winch and sand rails remain functional recovery equipment. Other mandatory accessories may be scale representations.

🛞 Wheels, Tyres & Vehicle Stance

The Camel Trophy Endurance Series is intended to retain the appearance and character of period Camel Trophy Land Rovers. Wheel and tyre choices should reflect expedition vehicles, not modern competition rock crawlers.

Tyres

- Tyres must measure 48–52 mm overall diameter.

- Tyres must use a period-appropriate expedition, mud-terrain, military or all-terrain style tread pattern.

- The Michelin XCL is the primary visual reference for traditional Camel Trophy tyre appearance.

- Other suitable period-style tread patterns are permitted and do not need to be exact replicas of tyres used on the original Camel Trophy.

- Modern competition crawler tyres, extreme wraparound sidewall lugs, paddle-style tyres, pin tyres, agricultural/tractor-style patterns or other obviously non-scale crawler tread designs are not permitted.

Wheels

- Maximum wheel size: 1.0 inch.

- Smaller suitable wheel sizes are permitted.

- Wheels must have a period-appropriate Land Rover / expedition appearance.

- Modern competition crawler-style wheels or designs that are clearly unsuitable for a Camel Trophy-era Land Rover are not permitted.

- Wheel choice may be used to improve the scale appearance and individuality of a build.

Vehicle Stance & Wheel-Arch Coverage

Vehicles must retain a realistic Land Rover-style track width and stance.

When viewed from directly above:

The wheel arch must cover at least 50% of the tyre tread width.

The outer edge of the wheel arch must therefore reach at least the centreline of the tyre tread.

No more than half of the tyre tread may protrude outside the wheel arch.

Excessive wheel offset or widened track intended to create a modern competition-crawler stance is not permitted.

Scrutineering

Compliance will be judged on the finished vehicle as presented for Scrutineering.

The intention of these regulations is not to force every vehicle to use identical wheels and tyres. Builders are encouraged to create individual rigs while maintaining a convincing Sandglow Camel Trophy Land Rover appearance.

Period expedition — yes.

Modern competition crawler — no.

🔧 Suspension & Geometry

Suspension setup is open to driver preference and customisation, provided the finished vehicle retains a realistic Camel Trophy / Land Rover-style suspension geometry.

The intention is to allow drivers to tune their rigs for stability, control and realistic suspension movement without creating modern competition rock-crawler geometry.

Shock Length

- Maximum shock length: under 40 mm.

- Any suitable shock type may be used within this limit.

Permitted Suspension Types

Drivers may use:

- Spring and shock combinations

- Oil-filled shocks

- Shock/damper-only arrangements

- Standalone springs

- Loom bands or similar elastic resistance systems

- Combinations of the above

Standalone springs and other custom arrangements are permitted where builders want to create more realistic suspension movement and vehicle behaviour.

Loom bands or similar systems may be used to provide additional resistance, control suspension movement or reduce unloading.

Shock Geometry

Shocks must remain in a conventional vehicle-style orientation.

They may be:

- Upright / near vertical

- Slightly leaned forwards

- Slightly leaned backwards

Extreme shock angles or mounting arrangements intended to create competition rock-crawler suspension geometry are not permitted.

Suspension Performance

There is no requirement for maximum articulation.

Drivers are free to tune spring rate, damping, resistance and suspension travel to suit their vehicle.

The finished setup should prioritise believable expedition vehicle behaviour, stability and control rather than extreme crawler articulation.

Scrutineering

Suspension will be assessed as part of the finished vehicle at Scrutineering.

The principle is simple:

Under 40 mm shocks.

Conventional suspension geometry.

Realistic Land Rover-style movement.

No competition crawler geometry.

All vehicles must represent a one-one land rover vehicle that was used the camel trophy event

A familiar team who have attended every Camel Trophy event since the beginning, the Yorkshire Yobbos finally claimed their well-earned victory in The Wreckoning. Bringing great energy, humour, and true Camel Trophy spirit, they tackled the toughest terrain yet with teamwork, patience, and determination a fantastic and deserving addition to the Hall of Fame.

🏆 Series 4 The Forbidden Path Champion

Yorkshire Yobbos

After claiming their long-awaited first victory in Series 3, The Wreckoning, the Yorkshire Yobbos returned for Series 4 and proved it was no one-off. Fighting off tough competition throughout The Forbidden Path, they once again showed the teamwork, determination, humour, and true Camel Trophy spirit that have made them such a familiar part of the series.

After another hard-fought event, the Yorkshire Yobbos emerged victorious to claim an impressive back-to-back championship, becoming the Series 4 The Forbidden Path, sponsored by BATRAZZI, Champions.

A fantastic achievement from a team who continue to leave their mark on the Reactive Terrain RC Camel Trophy Hall of Fame.

🧰 Recovery & Winching Regulations

Recovery is a core part of the Camel Trophy challenge. Teams must work together to overcome difficult terrain using realistic expedition techniques.

Tow ropes, vehicle-mounted winches, and hand winches are essential tools and may be used throughout the course.

Fixed winch points may also be positioned around the trail to assist vehicles in difficult sections.

🔧 Permitted Recovery Equipment

The following recovery equipment may be used:

• Vehicle-mounted winches

• Hand winches

• Tow ropes / tow straps

• Fixed course winch points

• Natural anchor points (logs, trees, etc.)

All recovery equipment should be used in a realistic and scale manner.

⚠️ Recovery Rules

• Vehicles must not be lifted over obstacles.

• Vehicles must remain in contact with the ground at all times.

• Winching must be performed as a simulated scale recovery.

This means the vehicle should be pulled through the obstacle under tension, just as it would be during a real expedition recovery.

🚫 Not Allowed

The following actions are not permitted:

• Lifting the vehicle over obstacles

• Pulling or dragging the vehicle through an obstacle by hand

• Throwing the vehicle forward past difficult sections

• Using recovery equipment to bypass obstacles completely

🤝 Team Recovery

Camel Trophy is a team endurance event.

Teams may assist each other by:

• Anchoring winch lines

• Assisting with tow ropes

• Helping position recovery equipment

However, hands must not move the vehicle forward directly.

🪵 Natural Obstacles & Aids

Drivers may use natural trail aids, such as:

• Logs

• Rocks

• Sand rails carried by the team

These must be placed realistically and transported by the team during the trail.

🐪 Spirit of the Camel Trophy

The goal is not to avoid obstacles, but to overcome them through teamwork, skill, and realistic recovery techniques.

Drive smart, recover well, and respect the spirit of the expedition.

🐪 THE NINETY SPECIAL TASK

A competition within the competition.

Held during the lunch break, The Ninety Special Task is an optional timed challenge exclusively for FCX24M Camel Trophy D90s.

It does not form part of the main Camel Trophy championship and carries no points towards the team's overall result.

Drivers who own an eligible D90 are invited to bring it along, put it on the start line and see what the little Ninety can do.

The Special Task will use a short, compact course designed around the D90's short wheelbase, with tight manoeuvres and technical driving where precision matters just as much as speed.

One rig. One driver. One clock.

Runs will take place during the lunch break. Fastest successful run takes the win.

🚗 Rig Specification

The D90 must remain within the current Camel Trophy vehicle regulations, including permitted width, wheelbase, wheels and tyres.

- FCX24M D90 platform

- Camel Trophy wheel and tyre regulations apply

- Maximum width and wheelbase regulations apply

- No four-wheel steering or similar crawler-style steering modifications

- Mandatory expedition equipment from the main Trophy is not required

- The rig may be stripped down specifically for the Special Task

- Custom body configurations are permitted, including pickup-style D90 builds

- The vehicle must remain recognisably a D90-based Camel Trophy rig

No championship points. No requirement to enter.

Just a little extra Camel Trophy competition, a chance to get those little D90s off the shelf and onto the course  and some proper bragging rights and maybe a trophy 🏆
